NATURE OF POSITION:
 Full Time Faculty (167 days Appointment) 1.0 FTE


ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:

The position of Automotive Service Technology Faculty reports to the Dean of Workforce Development and the Vice President of Instruction.


PURPOSE/SUMMARY OF JOB:

The faculty member will be responsible for recruiting, teaching, advising and outreach to the communities served by MCC. Instructional content assignment will focus on the Automotive Service Technology field. This position will provide instruction at various times as needed, primarily late afternoon, evening and weekend. The faculty member will be responsible for using teaching methods and media designed to reach students of varying educational and experiential backgrounds to allow each student the opportunity to master the outcomes/objectives of the course. The new faculty member will be dynamic, creative and committed to teaching excellence, and have a passion for continuous improvement and assessment of student learning. The faculty member will work with community stakeholders throughout the College's service area to keep the program relevant for industry needs. Teaching assignments include alternative delivery settings as well as evening and weekend offerings. Travel to our Regional Centers for delivery of instructional content may be necessary. A commitment to experiential education to inspire student engagement and success is expected. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • 75% of the faculty member's time is spent teaching or in activities related to teaching such as grading, preparation, development of term schedule, curriculum review/revision, development of course outlines/syllabi, textbook selection/adoption, recruitment and student advising. Faculty member will maintain office hours and provide assistance to students as needed.
  • 20% of the faculty member's time is spent attending division meetings and serving on college and CCCS committees and project teams related to accreditation, curriculum, leadership, and others as identified by the faculty member and the supervisor.
  • 3% of the faculty member's time is spent on other duties as assigned by the Dean of Workforce Development and/or the Vice President of Instruction.
  • 1% Based on the functions, this position is identified as a Campus Security Authority. As a Campus Security Authority, the incumbent in this position is required to report allegations of Clery Act crimes that they become aware of to the Vice President of Student Services at Morgan Community College. Attends training pertaining to these responsibilities as required. (1%) 1% All MCC employees are responsible for ensuring their work and educational environments are free from illegal discrimination, sexual harassment, and related retaliation. When alleged or suspected discrimination, sexual harassment, or retaliation is experienced or observed by, or made known to, an MCC employee, the employee is responsible for reporting that information to one of the following individuals: the Title IX Coordinator and the Deputy Title IX Coordinator. Attends training pertaining to these responsibilities as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution in automotive repair or related field.
  • Work experience in the maintenance field with some understanding of process control and instrumentation.
  • ASE Master Certification
  • Strong technology skills and experience in using the MSOffice suite.
  • Must meet qualifications to obtain a Colorado Career and Technical Education Credential (4000 hours of verifiable paid occupational experience in the automotive field during last five years).
  • Must be willing and able to travel as required by position needs.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Automotive Technology or related educational field.
  • Full- or part-time teaching experience at the college level.
  • Ability to deliver instruction via distance technologies. Demonstrated success in working with students from diverse backgrounds.

RESPONSIBILITY AND DECISION MAKING:

  • Provides instruction to students in assigned classes in accordance with schedule, catalog description and official syllabi.
  • Maintains scheduled office hours according to established guidelines.
  • Maintains competence in assigned teaching fields.
  • Keeps CTE credential and required industry certifications current.
  • Engages in professional development activities and keeps informed on new approaches to instruction in area of focus.
  • Actively participates in the preparations and ongoing revision of class schedules, course syllabi and provides updated copies for department/division files.
  • Makes recommendations regarding course content, textbook selection, teaching assignments, and student assessment.
  • Collaborates with other automotive faculty to develop, deliver and evaluate the automotive program that meets industry demands.
  • Uses technology to delivery course content as necessary.
  • Supervise and instruct students on the safe operation and set-up of equipment and tools.
  • Collaborates with other automotive faculty to manage the lab area and work with local vendors to keep the lab functioning. This includes identifying equipment needs and purchasing supplies. Recommendations will be made to the Dean of Workforce Development and/or the Division Chair for CTE.
  • Incorporates principles of inclusive pedagogy into classroom management and delivery of instruction.
  • Assumes an active role in the recruitment, advising and enrollment processes of the College.
  • Participates in student evaluation of instruction process.
  • Serves on college committees and teams
  • Participates in program advisory committee meetings as requested.
  • Attends and actively participates in Departmental and Division meetings.
  • Participates in the Strategic Planning Process and provides input into the department work plan and budget development.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Dean of Workforce Development and/or the Vice President of Instruction.


The faculty member will be responsible for teaching courses in the Automotive Services Program. Primary job activities will include developing and evaluating curricular offerings and assessing student academic achievement in accordance with College and CCCS standards. The faculty member will be responsible for working in a collaborative manner with faculty and staff throughout the institution and across the service area to deliver coursework. In addition to providing content expertise, the faculty member's responsibilities will include problem resolution, research of policy and procedurally related matters, and the coordination of functions for the program and its students. Recruitment and advising are also the responsibility of the faculty member. The faculty member shall perform all duties while promoting opportunities for inclusion, expressing the valuing of differences, and regularly demonstrating the college's commitment to the Guiding Principles.
