The Highline College Human Services department is actively looking for part-time Human Services faculty to teach primarily online and hybrid courses starting the 2024-2025 academic year. The successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to use equity-minded approaches to teaching and learning for racially, ethnically, linguistically, and socioeconomically diverse students, including designing curriculum, pedagogy, and assessments relevant to students; valuing what students already know; and empowering students to demonstrate knowledge in multiple ways as appropriate for the discipline(s) or program(s).

Candidates should be able and excited to teach courses within the Human Services Department (teaching assignments may include evening/weekend, online, hybrid, and off-campus sections) which specifically serve adult learners. We are specifically seeking a candidate to teach HSER 211 Adulthood and Aging, which is offered twice a year in fall and spring quarters. HSER 211 introduces students to the complex dynamics of the aging process, including psychological and physiological developments, changing roles and status, health issues and ageism. In addition, this course promotes a strength-based approach to understanding aging, using a holistic model to encourage healthy, joyous living.

Salary is based on initial placement, work experience, and the number of assigned credits. The current salary range per credit hour is $1,153.31 to $1,235.13. Essential Tasks

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Teach HSER 211 Adulthood & Aging which is offered twice a year in fall and spring quarters. The course is generally offered in the evening in a hybrid Zoom format;
  • Demonstrate culturally-responsive teaching practices;
  • Incorporate an equity-minded approach to teaching and learning;
  • Provide on-campus and/or online instruction in English designed to promote effective learning;
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment for students using diverse teaching methods to support and enhance student success;
  • Develop, assess, and analyze student achievement of course learning outcomes with goal of enhancing and improving student learning;
  • Develop, monitor, and assess student learning outcomes and fully participate in the college’s program improvement/program review process;
  • Remain current in discipline(s)/program(s), including participating in the design, assessment, review and revision of courses, where appropriate, in response to developments in the field;
  • Complete other related duties and special projects as assigned.

  • Adopt and use equity-minded approaches to teaching and learning for all students, including designing curriculum, pedagogy, and assessments relevant to students; valuing what students already know; and empowering students to demonstrate knowledge in multiple ways as appropriate for the discipline(s) or program(s);
  • Demonstrate commitment to student learning including planning, organizing, and creating an interactive, cooperative, and mutually respectful learning environment incorporating research-based practices to teaching and assessment;
  • Encourage students to ask questions, confront limits, recognize complexities, think critically, and challenge assumptions;
  • Convey information and expectations clearly, listening carefully, encouraging students to communicate, and acting with respect, enthusiasm, and empathy toward students;
  • Demonstrate personal and professional integrity, including being professional, honest, and ethical in the selection and delivery of course content;
  • Establish and maintain respectful, ethical, and professional relationships with students and colleagues;
  • Demonstrate cultural responsiveness in interactions with students and co-workers, and within the community.

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Master's degree (or higher) in Social Work, Psychology, or closely-related field from an institution with regional accreditation or its international equivalent. (Pending degrees must be verified by a letter from the granting institution.); AND
  • Professional experience and expertise in working with aging populations; AND
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to equity and inclusion in working with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds and identities; AND
  • Experience as a teacher and trainer.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience teaching at a two-year college;
  • Graduate work/teaching focused on adult development and aging;
