Sinclair Community College is a comprehensive community college with an enrollment of over 30,000 students that offers career and transfer programs leading to an associate degree, certificate programs, and continuing education opportunities. The Health Sciences Division at Sinclair is currently seeking candidates for a tenure track opening in the Health Information Management Department for August 16, 2024.

Principal Accountabilities
Satisfactory performance of the six Critical Performance areas required for all full-time faculty:
  • Scholarship and Professional Growth: Maintain and seek to improve currency and competence in the discipline and as a teacher.
  • Teaching and Learning Facilitation: Participate in the continuing development and implementation of the department’s curriculum through teaching that reflects a strong commitment to fostering student success.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Implement evaluations according to established standards and use assessment data to continuously improve teaching and learning.
  • Student Development: Through in-class and out-of-class initiatives, actively seek to advance the development of individual students and their capacity to meet their educational goals.
  • Curriculum Design: In collaboration with colleagues, actively contribute to the continuous review and revision of the department’s curriculum. Must exhibit advanced computer proficiency, alongside the capability and time-management skills required for the effective development and revision of online courses.
  • Workplace and Community Service: Contribute to the operation and advancement of the college through committee service and other activities. Extend professional expertise to the community served by the college.

 

 
  • Compliance with the terms and conditions set forth in the Full-Time Faculty Handbook and the Full-Time Employee Handbook.
  • Teaching a minimum of 30 semester hours annually during the academic year.

Requirements
  • Must possess and maintain the following licensure: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT). certification from the American Health Information Management Association (RHIA preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
  • In order to receive tenure, applicant will be required to obtain master’s degree within a specified time period.
  • Minimum of one year of full-time experience in acute care medical-facility coding or coding instruction within the last 5 years (additional coding and/or supervisory experience preferred).
  • Minimum of two years of successful prior teaching experience, and ability to teach classroom and online courses.
  • Evidence of curriculum design experience, preferred.
  • A demonstrated commitment to improving student learning through innovative strategies shown to help students succeed at the course and program level, including ability to teach in a student-centered active learning model.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, and the capacity to work successfully in a culturally diverse college community.
