Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The successful candidate will serve as the Risk Analysis Program Director for the Joint Institute for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (JIFSAN). This position is primarily responsible for overseeing and advancing the JIFSAN Risk Analysis Program, which offers a wide array of educational, outreach, and research opportunities tailored to food safety professionals, students, and faculty across diverse disciplines. The JIFSAN Risk Analysis Program integrates several interrelated initiatives, including the Summer Integrated Program in Food Safety Risk Analysis, Professional Development Training via Distance Learning, and Customized Training in Food Safety Risk Analysis. Key responsibilities for this role include providing strategic direction, managing day-to-day operations, and ensuring the successful implementation of all program activities. Additionally, the Director will be expected to teach at least one Food Safety Risk Analysis Professional Development course, contributing directly to the professional growth of participants in the field.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Master’s degree.

Experience:
  • Professional background in food science, biology, economics or other disciplines relevant to food safety risk analysis.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching and outreach in risk analysis.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proven strong leadership skills.
  • Familiarity with the language and concepts of risk analysis.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly present ideas, reports, recommendations, both orally and in writing.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong adherence to deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to easily use and implement social media, telecommunication apps, and software such as Zoom, WebEx, Teams, etc. to market and conduct training courses and meetings.

Preferences:

  • Ph.D. degree
  • Strong background in information structure management.
  • Academic training or practical experience in evaluating and analyzing risk analysis needs as they pertain to governmental regulatory and/or information policy (e.g. collection and use of information, survey design).
