Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Maryland invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position to begin in Fall Semester 2025. We seek applicants who have a promising research program focused on areas related to resiliency and inequality. Potential recruitment areas include offending, victimization, policing, courts and sentencing, corrections, prisoner reentry, juvenile delinquency, crime and violence prevention, among others. We wish to identify applicants who take an interdisciplinary and/or methodologically innovative approach, have strong theoretical orientations, and share the goal to work collectively to create a just, equitable, and inclusive future for our discipline and the diverse communities we serve.

The successful candidate will have a promising record and demonstrate excellence in any of the above or other related topic areas along with a strong commitment to research and teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates should have the Ph.D. in criminology and criminal justice (or a related field such as sociology, demography, political science, psychology, public policy, and economics) in hand at the time of appointment.
