The Department of Psychiatry within the School of Medicine at UC San Diego (https://psychiatry.ucsd.edu/) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. As a leader in innovative research, state-of-the-art treatment, and comprehensive education in psychiatry, the department seeks to recruit basic, translational and clinician scientists to our faculty. We provide an exceptionally collaborative environment to support interdisciplinary research and training approaches.
Candidates interested in using cutting-edge methodologies to illuminate the nature, mechanisms, and/or treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct pioneering research in psychiatry and mental health.
- Secure and manage extramural funding to support research initiatives.
- Publish high-impact findings in leading scientific journals.
- Mentor and inspire the next generation of psychiatrists and researchers.
- Develop and teach advanced courses in psychiatry and related fields (see https://psychiatry.ucsd.edu/education-training/index.html).
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to identify mechanisms and enhance clinical practices and patient care.
- Engage in community outreach to promote mental health awareness and education.
The appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate's background and experience. Series will include 50% Ladder Rank / 50% In-Residence with secured extramural funding or 100% Ladder Rank.

As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities, and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited. Candidates must have a PhD in health sciences or related fields and/or MD or equivalent.
Candidates must have 5+ years of experience in clinical, translational, and/or basic research, an independent extramurally-funded research program (e.g., NIH R01 or similar), and 5+ years of research in high impact journals with 1+ grants and/or publications in psychiatric research.
Candidates must also have 5+ years of a track record of teaching and/or mentorship activities.
Candidates with a MD or equivalent with clinical duties must be Board certified or Board eligible in their related field and must also be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California.
