We strongly encourage members of underrepresented communities to apply to join our community.Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.Position Summary: Massachusetts Bay Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Cybersecurity from qualified applicants. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for teaching and promoting success among a diverse student population. Faculty members are responsible for developing educational and evaluation materials consistent with the philosophy and framework of the program, MassBay Community College, and the Computer Science program in accordance with the evolving needs of the STEM division.The successful candidate will be comfortable offering hands-on laboratory courses using current computer technologies, software, and tools.

The highest priority topics of relevance for expertise in teaching are cybersecurity fundamentals, network security, and application security. Of additional importance are information security management, cryptography, incident response and forensics, ethical hacking and penetration testing, security operations, emerging technologies and trends, and human factors in security. Teaching, advising, and mentoring are also expected to support students growth in technical interviewing, writing, and project management within the cyber domain. The successful candidate will employ these areas of expertise toward the purpose of the Cybersecurity program, which is to provide a cybersecurity generalist foundation on which learners can narrow their focus moving forward in their careers, further education, and/or continuing professional learning.

More generally, the applicant will demonstrate a solid understanding of a community college's role in workforce development and successful transfer (through the creation of pathways) to a four-year higher education institution. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a good understanding of shared governance and a strong commitment to collaboration and professional development. The successful candidate will help the Computer Science program develop relevant courses and teaching strategies for students with diverse interests and learning styles to support student recruitment and retention. The Cybersecurity faculty member is responsible for maintaining their certification to fulfill the ongoing needs of this position.Courses may be held in the classroom at Wellesley (in-person), in the hybrid or online environment, however the candidate must be able to teach on campus as the majority of classes are taught in-person on campus or hybrid.

The candidate will have the opportunity to shape the curriculum and engage in community-based outreach activities and applied research related to the Colleges state-of-the-art Cyber Range.
 
 
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
 
  • Teach a full-time (15 credit hours per semester) schedule of Cybersecurity courses, which may include, but are not limited to the list found online in the academic catalog; Effectively communicate inter-personally orally and in writing; Work and collaborate effectively with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff;
  • Prepare course syllabi and develop curricula to meet course and program requirements and student learning outcomes;
  • Serve as academic advisor to students, with expertise in advising and mentoring minoritized students; Post and maintain a minimum of four (4) office hours per week;
  • Participate in the improvement and development of academic programs and resources, designations, accreditation, articulation, and assessment of courses and programs;
  •  Collaborate on selecting, recommending, creating, and preparing suitable instructional materials, lab experiences, simulations, and demonstrations that utilize a wide variety of teaching methods and modalities;
  • Submit midterm and final grade reports, attendance records, early alerts, and other reports pertaining to assigned courses by required due dates;
  • Serve on College committees as elected or appointed;
  • Attend program, division, and committee meetings;
  • Assist the program and STEM Dean in recruiting qualified adjunct faculty as needed;
  • Engage in professional development activities to maintain excellence in teaching and learning;
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned by the Dean consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or relevant fields from an accredited university;
  • Post-secondary teaching experience;
  • Relevant industry experience in Cybersecurity, or Information Technology with focus on security.
 
 
Preferred Qualifications:
 
  • Current cybersecurity-related certifications or licenses (e.g., CISSP, CompTIA Security+, Cisco CCNA, Cisco security) or a commitment to pursuing these;
  • Ability to adapt CompTIA training into the instruction of relevant courses Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity;
  • Experience working in a diverse environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved and minoritized students;
  • Teaching experience at a community college;
  • Two years of teaching experience in credit-bearing courses at the college level or equivalent industry training experience;
  • Demonstrated versatility in teaching a range of courses offered in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or Information Technology programs;
  • Experience in curricular planning and assessment as well as practices, technologies, and inclusive pedagogy to enhance student learning;
  • Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery systems;
  • Experience with federal and/or state grants; Interest in and familiarity with workforce development needs in the regional community;
  • Experience with outreach activities with K-12 schools.
 
 
 
Additional Information:
Salary Range: $70,000-$80,000, in accordance with one's education and experience as dictated by the collective bargaining agreement classification compensation structure.
