The College of Business and Economics is considered a leadership unit within the university. The College is AACSB accredited at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and has more than 60 full-time faculty. The College grants the MBA degree along with the Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with concentrations in Finance, Marketing, Management, International Business, Operations Management, Management Information Systems and (through the program in Poulsbo) General Business. Other degree programs within the college include Financial Economics, Business and Sustainability, Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management, and Accounting. Resources available to students in Finance and Financial Economics include a finance lab, a student-advised investment scholarship fund, and a chapter of the FMA. Two professional advisory boards, one for the scholarship fund and one for the Finance program generally, provide consultation and support.

About the Position
A full-time, tenure track position at the Assistant or Associate (pre-tenure) Professor level is available in Finance. Primary teaching responsibilities could include Managerial Finance, Cases in Financial Management, Financial Markets and Institutions, or other finance courses at the undergraduate and MBA level. The starting date is September 2025.

Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or ABD in Finance at time of application (or an earned Ph.D. in Economics at time of application if it is accompanied by extensive coursework in finance and/or considerable scholarly finance-related research). If ABD, all degree requirements must be completed by June 15th of the first year of employment. (Assuming the intended September 2025 start date, all degree requirements must be completed by June 15, 2026.)
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching or the demonstration of teaching promise
  • Ability to teach core undergraduate courses in Finance
  • Scholarship records commensurate with the number of years since completion of the Ph.D. or its equivalent and promise to engage in and produce high quality research.
  • For appointment at the Associate Professor level, demonstrated significant research and evidence of successful teaching commensurate with standards for promotion to Associate Professor in the Department, College, and University.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Finance or ABD with evidence that degree completion in 2025 is probable.
  • Ability to teach in multiple areas, such as corporate finance, investments, personal finance, and financial institutions.
  • Potential to contribute to the mission of the Merriman Financial Literacy Program, which supports WWU students’ skill development in personal finance through for-credit courses, peer-to-peer coaching, workshops, continuing education, and online resources.
  • Potential to expand student interest and engagement in the Finance major
  • Ability and willingness to engage in both intra- and inter-disciplinary collaborations
  • Service record commensurate with the number of years since completion of the Ph.D.
  • Ability to work with and teach to an increasingly diverse student population and a desire to advance accessibility, equity, inclusion, and diversity in the College

Salary

 


The starting salary range for assistant professor appointment, tenure-track is generally between $125,000-$150,000, with placement within the position’s salary range being based on qualifications and professional experience. The entire salary range for the assistant professor position is $125,000-$165,000, with the upper end of the salary range typically being achieved through collectively bargained salary adjustments.

The starting salary range for associate professor appointment, tenure-track is generally between $138,000-$155,000. The entire salary range for the associate professor position is $138,000-$180,000.

Relocation assistance may be available per University guidelines. Salary and Start-up funds are to be determined upon being offered the position.
