The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking PT Instructors for the Biology department
at Las Positas College. Las Positas College, a community college located in Livermore, Ca, is looking for
part time Biology instructors for the part-time instructor pool. We are regularly looking to staff classes
such as: Zoology, and Introductory Biology (for Health Majors).
Course Descriptions
General Zoology: Major groups of animal phyla and heterotrophic unicellular eukaryotes. Topics include
comparative structure and function, development, ecology, taxonomy, phylogeny, evolution, and behavior.
Designed for majors in biological sciences and related fields.
Introduction to College Biology: Basic principles of biology. Cell structure and function, cell division, cell
metabolism, reproduction, genetics, taxonomy, origin of life, and evolution. Laboratory emphasis on
developing various laboratory skills, using the metric system, collecting data, graphing, interpreting data,
and preparing for and taking laboratory exams. Designed to prepare the necessary concepts and
laboratory skills and experience that are needed to succeed in more advanced courses in biology.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Instructors are responsible for 3 hours of lecture and 6 hours of lab per week. Class sections have up to
24 students.
2. Responsible for using the assigned textbook and delivering the content as specified in the course
outline.
3. Responsible for working with other Biology faculty and Lab Tech staff to coordinate multiple sections
on the same lab schedule.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s in any biological science OR Bachelor’s in any biological science AND Master’s in biochemistry,
biophysics, or marine science OR the equivalent.
Evidence of understanding of and responsiveness to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural,
disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, racial and ethnic backgrounds of community college
students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices within the classroom.

application how their academic preparation is the equivalent of the degree listed above.
Desirable Qualifications:
1. Ideal candidates will have community college teaching experience or experience as the
instructor of record in lower division courses.
2. Experience teaching in-person and/or in a hybrid format.
