Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provides instruction of courses in discipline field. Monitor the teaching/learning effectiveness in courses assigned by the Department Director, Dean of Workforce Education, or Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs in which the instructor has qualifications. Use up-to-date Content and instructive skills to ensure active participation and learning by students.

Physical Presence on Campus
The position requires office hours and physical presence on campus.  Employee must reside in the Laredo area or be able to commute to campus daily.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Prepare and, on the first day of class, post or distribute syllabi, which inform students about course requirements, grading distribution, requirements, testing assignments, absence policy and other pertinent information for each course assigned.
  2. Meet all classes and other scheduled responsibilities such as office hours and meetings at the designated times. A faculty member should inform the supervisor if he or she is unable to meet a class on time in order that substitutes be facilitated.
  3. Prepare, administer, and grade assignments and examinations in a timely manner to inform students about their Progress and to provide opportunities, which will allow students to succeed.  Use multiple measures of assessment. Include opportunities for research and outside assignments.
  4. Follow procedures related to the office of the Registrars and Admission, including enrollment certification roll deadlines.
  5. Provide a safe environment for students and be responsible for the security of assigned equipment, materials, and classrooms.
  6. To work with the department and colleagues to develop, assess, evaluate, and revise programs, courses, syllabi and objectives to ensure instructional and programmatical responsiveness to the occupational and academic needs of our students and to ensure instructional quality through the achievement of competency-based objectives.
  7. Provide information and/or data on student learning outcomes assessments etc., to the requesting officer so that the proper reports may be completed and filed with proper educational agency, funding agency, or accrediting agency.
  8. Must keep abreast of the changes that occur in their discipline due to the rapid changes of technology by actively participating as members of the advisory committees both on and off campus; by attending conferences; by returning to their appropriate field of expertise either through course work or world-of-work experiences; and by reading scholarly journals.
  9. Stay current of changes that occur in discipline. Participate in department initiatives to infuse changes into curriculum. Participate in interdisciplinary discussions, which are directed at improving student learning and evaluating core competencies curriculum.
  10. Participate in the preparation and updating of class schedules and the Catalog.
  11. Participate a minimum of 40 hours on campus assigned duties, including an average of 10 posted office hours per week in your office, department office, classroom, or studio for consultation with students.
  12. Promote the College’s program and curricula.
  13. Follow proper procedures for requesting textbooks, instructional supplies, and expendable supplies; submit travel and absence reports on a timely basis
  14. Announce student evaluation of courses on a timely basis.
  15. Encourage use of support services by students. Collaborate with support services staff to ensure that appropriate information is shared and discussed.
  16. Provide appropriate information to Library staff regarding desired discipline materials.
  17. Follow the academic calendar and other policies and procedures adopted by the Board of Trustees.
  18. Serve as peer mentor when requested.
  19. Participate in the preparation and updating of class schedules and the Catalog.
  20. Follow proper procedures for requesting textbooks, instructional supplies, and expendable supplies; submit travel and absence reports on a timely basis.
  21. Substitute for colleagues as necessary.
  22. Participate in college and departmental committees and activities.
  23. Participate in meetings called by the Department Director, Dean of Workforce Education, Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs, and President for the purpose of disseminating information, providing input into the decision-making process and sharing expertise with colleagues.
  24. Participate as a faculty advisory during the registration process and during the semester by providing accurate career counseling and guidance at time assigned by the Department Director or Dean. Use the Program Degree Guide on an on-going basis to maintain current information about each student.
  25. Respond to requests for information from the Department Director, Dean of Workforce Education, Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs’ Office.
  26. Participate in college activities, which include but are not limited to orientation, convocation, in-service, graduation, and workshops designed for growth and development.
  27. Support the recruitment activities of the college and department by participating in career days, presenting topics to civic leaders, and presenting career guidance to high school, junior high school, grade school students and civic activities.
  28. Participate in Stipend duties (those outside of the instructional duties in the service of the college) such as, college and civic functions, gallery exhibitions work and attendance, recruitment activities, career/pathway advisor or other duties as assigned by the Department Director.
  29. Sponsor or provide assistance to department student clubs and organizations.
  30. Oher duties may be assigned by the immediate supervisor, Dean of Workforce Education, Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs, President.
 

Qualifications/Certifications/Licenses/Skills

 Required:

  • Master’s degree in Fine Arts or Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in arts. 
  • Graduate coursework hours must be aligned with course learning outcomes that instructor will be teaching. 
  • Study, work and instruction in 2D media.

Preferred:

  • Areas of study: 2D media, drawing, printmaking, and/or digital media and photography.
  • Three years at college level instruction.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Proficiency in various 2D media, photography, or digital media.
