Job Description
Inver Hills Community College seeks a Computer Science Instructor dedicated to excellence in teaching who desires to become part of a creative, vibrant, student centered learning community. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to interdisciplinary and cross cultural perspectives. Faculty members at Inver Hills are professionally active scholars who participate in departmental and campus wide activities to enhance their disciplines, promote interdisciplinary discourse and collaboration, and advance the college mission. The college is committed to reflecting a diversity of perspectives and backgrounds among its administrators, faculty and staff.

This position is critical to the development and growth of the college’s Computer Science Transfer Pathway Associate of Science degree. This UFT assignment will include a teaching component of 70%–80% and a non-teaching academic program development component of 20%–30%.

Examples of Duties:
  • Participate in department and college curriculum development.
  • Teach a range of Computer Science courses including, among others, Java, C++, computer architecture, algorithms and data structures, and discrete structures
  • Conduct classroom research and other assessment/evaluation activities.
  • Mentor and advise students
  • Participate in committee assignments and college wide initiatives
  • Engage in scholarly and other professional development activities.

Required Qualifications
Education Requirement
    • Master’s degree with a major in computer science, or
    • Master’s degree in any discipline/field with a minimum of 18 graduate semester credits (27 graduate quarter credits) in computer science.

 


  • Master’s degree must be completed prior to start date.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficient in a variety of computer programming languages
  • Higher education teaching experience with diverse student populations
  • Experience in program design and development
  • Experience in student recruitment and/or retention activities
  • Experience developing curriculum
  • Demonstrated ability to use a variety of teaching methods
  • Experience developing and using student-centered learning strategies
  • Experience assessing student academic achievement
  • Experience using a variety of technologies to enhance teaching and student learning, including experience or willingness to teach online classes; familiarity with D2L
  • Commitment to the mission and constituencies of a community college

Benefits Info
Salary: Full time faculty salaries currently range from $40,912 – $85,892 annually. Salary schedule placement is determined on the basis of education and experience and in accordance with the 2021-2023 Master Agreement between the Minnesota State Board of Trustees and the Minnesota State College Faculty.

Depending on credit load, the State of Minnesota offers:
  • Work assignment of 171 days (August – May)
