Course Description

MSA 5606.1 - Financial Statement Analytics (March 16-April 30, 2024; Remote on Wednesdays from 7:00-9:40 PM and in-person on some Saturdays from 1:00-5:30 PM)
In addition to exposing students to the traditional financial statement analysis tools, this course will teach students how to use analytics to visualize financial statement data, display them more intuitively, and find the composition, progress, and trend in a company’s development. Because of the power of data analytics, students will learn how to extend such analysis to an industry, a market, or an even broader scope, by using a large number of companies’ financial statements.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in accounting or in business with an emphasis on accounting, financial statement analytics or closely related field.
  • Experience teaching accounting courses.
  • Experience with data analytics or willingness to embed analytics in teaching financial statement analysis courses.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in accounting and/or evidence of having passed the CPA exams.
  • Experience teaching financial statement analytics at the MBA or graduate level.
  • Working experience in the financial industry.

Adjunct Compensation

Adjunct Faculty members are employed in a professional capacity at the University. For courses, including service-learning courses and laboratories, the University compensates Adjunct Faculty Members on a per-unit basis for Course-Related Work as set forth in Article 15 of the CBA.All other duties or work performed on behalf of the University as an Adjunct Faculty Member are compensated in accordance withArticle 12 Faculty Developmentor Article 16 Special Compensation. Adjunct Faculty Members who teach on a per-unit basis shall receive compensation per unit for assignments as an instructor for a credit-bearing course or laboratory. Movement through the step system shall be based on total number of Dominican Points and satisfactory performance, as set forth inArticle 13,Performance Evaluation.
