Job Description
This position is responsible for a variety of accounting-related functions which must be performed in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, as well as federal, state, and Minnesota State policies and regulations. This position is responsible for assisting in the management of the online bookstore and responding to customer account questions, co-managing purchasing and contracts; providing oversight for accounts receivable and collections, serve as a backup in the reconciliation of the Financial Aid Grants and drawdowns; performing banking functions and serving as the primary contact with the credit card processing company used by the College.
This person will report directly to the Business Manager/CFO.

Required Qualifications

  • AAS Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, or another business-related area.
  • Two years of recent accounting work experience in a complex environment that requires thorough knowledge of appropriation, budgetary and accounting systems, preferably in a public sector setting.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices and bookkeeping sufficient to analyze and interpret fiscal data.
  • Knowledge of budget terminology and principles sufficient to assist in preparing a division or agency budget.
  • Knowledge of statewide accounting (or comparable) systems sufficient to compile, analyze, and interpret fiscal information for use by management.
  • Knowledge of auditing principles and procedures sufficient to provide information to assist in the audit of a division or agency.
  • Ability to prepare and interpret complex fiscal reports and records.
  • Ability to interpret federal and state laws and departmental fiscal policies.
  • Communication skills, both oral and written, necessary to provide accurate information in a tactful and professional manner.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, or Business Administration.
  • Ability to provide accurate, detailed analysis of complex information and issues as well as ability to prepare, analyze, and interpret budgets for auditing and reporting requirements. Thorough knowledge and understanding of accounting and budgeting practices and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate accounting concepts, principles, policies, and reports with non-accounting clientele in a way that maximizes understanding for all parties.
  • Previous accounting work experience at another Minnesota State institution
  • Knowledge of the functions, procedures, organization, laws, and regulations governing nonprofit and government accounting for Minnesota State and State of Minnesota.
  • High degree of technical proficiency in various computer applications, such as Microsoft programs including Word, Excel, and database management and reporting programs including Power BI.
  • Experience and knowledge of process improvement concepts.
  • Experience in creating queries in a complex database.
  • Ability to use office machines and equipment, such as computers and other data processing equipment to gather and compile data.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with management, other staff, and auditors.
