The Opportunity

The Department of Nursing Practice in the College of Nursing at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for two full-time, 12-month, non-tenure earning instructor or lecturer positions to primarily teach the simulation portion of clinical courses for the undergraduate nursing program (instructor or lecturer), the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program (lecturer only), and the Nurse Practitioner Certificate programs (lecturer only). The positions will be primarily located on the UCF Orlando main campus and will require travel to the regional campuses. The anticipated start date is Spring 2023. 

The selected candidates will work collaboratively with nursing colleagues and colleagues from other disciplines, maintain clinical practice competence, remain actively involved in professional organizations, maintain scholarship in their field, and actively seek opportunities for and participate in College of Nursing faculty governance.

Responsibilities and expectations include:

  • Teaching the simulation portion of clinical and lab courses in the undergraduate nursing program (instructor or lecturer), and the DNP program and Nurse Practitioner Certificate programs (lecturer only). Applicants will be provided the appropriate training and mentorship to teach using simulation pedagogy.  

  • Have up to 70% of their time teaching in simulation.

  • Teaching the laboratory and direct clinical care portion of nursing courses in the undergraduate nursing program (instructor or lecturer), and the DNP program and Nurse Practitioner Certificate programs (lecturer only) based on area of expertise.  

  • Teaching didactic nursing courses in the undergraduate (instructor or lecturer) and DNP and Nurse Practitioner Certificate programs (lecturer) as qualified and when needed.

  • Creating, updating, and validating simulation cases, assisting in lab schedules, as well as open lab days.

  • If not currently a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator® (CHSE®), will apply to become certified after two (2) years of simulation experience at the College of Nursing.

  • Local travel to other campuses may be required (e.g., Daytona and Cocoa campuses).

  • Work some evenings and occasional weekends is required. 

  • Other duties include student advisement and mentorship; precepting graduate students in simulation-based pedagogy (lecturer only); participating in planning, organizing, and developing curriculum for the nursing programs; service to college and university committees.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An earned Master of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution by date of hire (instructor), or a doctorate in Nursing from an accredited institution by date of hire (lecturer).

  • Unencumbered current RN licensure in Florida and multistate by the date of hire.

  • Active Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate degree in nursing from an accredited institution by date of hire. 

  • Unencumbered current APRN licensure in Florida. 

  • Recent inpatient or outpatient clinical nursing experience (within past two or three years).

  • Recent clinical experience as Nurse Practitioner (within past 1 year). 

  • National certification as Nurse Practitioner. 

  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator® (CHSE®).

  • At least one year of experience teaching in simulation labs.

  • Recent undergraduate and/or graduate teaching experience (within past two years).

  • Recent experience in teaching using online platforms.

  • Demonstrated commitment to student success and excellence in graduate and undergraduate education. 

  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate instructional technologies in the classroom and/or simulated settings.

  • Demonstrated scholarship (e.g., publications, national presentations) and active participation in community and/or professional health and nursing organizations.
